Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) affect over a billion people globally, primarily from the most vulnerable and marginalized communities. Despite this immense disease burden, research on NTDs has historically been dominated by external actors, researchers, policymakers and funders, and has often been disconnected from the daily realities of those most affected. However, as global health systems increasingly emphasize equity, decolonization and person-centred care, fostering inclusive and participatory equitable research in NTDs is no longer optional: it is essential. Several authors of this Correspondence are people affected by different NTDs, who bring vital perspectives shaped by direct experience and lived realities.
