Implementation Research (IR) addresses the barriers that hinder the effective and sustainable adoption of evidence-based interventions in specific settings. IR is essential for bridging the gap between scientific evidence and clinical practice, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where limitations in human resources, infrastructure, and funding present significant challenges. Despite its potential to improve health equity, the structural context of these countries poses substantial obstacles.
This article aims to reflect on the key challenges LMICs face in applying IR, propose strategies to overcome them, and highlight tools that facilitate its implementation in these settings.
