It is a neglected tropical disease (NTD) with uneven occurrence, especially in low-income settings and marginalized populations in tropical countries. Therapeutic itinerary could be understood as choices, attitudes and assessments” made by individuals toward certain types of treatment, related to individual searches and the socioeconomic status of each patient. The present work is based on the importance of social sciences in the area of collective health with a focus on leprosy, toward a better approach of care and to change of this situation, as a social system, for the understanding of what is health, as an object of study and interest. This is a narrative-type bibliographic research from the perspective of collective health. In the discussions, it is observed that poverty is a determining factor for occurrence and transmission of leprosy, which reflects its high incidence in Brazil. In this way, social interventions can impact the incidence of leprosy transmission with a relief of the level of poverty of the most disinherited. Finally, it should not be forgotten that the disease in question is considered as a public health problem in Brazil, which reflects its importance in the discussion of the subject within the social sciences, in the opinion-forming professional and academics and in the healthcare facilities, ensuring adequate support to people instead of stigma, according to what is inserted in the field of collective health.  a9788572476744
