Medical and health sciences education including the public health education program competencies and learning outcomes has been updated many times in accordance with the development of patient care practice. Public health schools around developing countries adopted the program learning outcomes and competencies from the international recommendations in addition to the recommendations of the local and international accreditation agencies in order to graduate students with the necessary knowledge and skills to be competent in the healthcare system and able to provide the most effective patient care services based on the evidence-based medicine; competencies and learning outcomes were developed and updated based on the development and improvement of patient care practice. This chapter includes the history of medical education competencies. It also describes the principles of competency-based education. Moreover, this chapter has described the international competencies and learning outcomes of public health education.
