Skin Health Army: Transforming Skin Health in Eastern Ethiopia
In Ethiopia, just 200 dermatologists serve a population of more than 120 million people. In the eastern part of the country, nine dermatologists care for more than 34 million people, many living in rural and underserved communities where access to specialist skin health services is extremely limited.
This film follows the efforts of dermatologists, residents and frontline healthcare workers in eastern Ethiopia as they work to expand access to care, strengthen training and challenge the stigma surrounding neglected tropical skin diseases such as leprosy.
From community outreach programmes reaching thousands of people, to the launch of the first dermatology residency programme in eastern Ethiopia, this documentary highlights the impact of education, mentorship and local leadership in improving skin health in resource-limited settings.
It is a story of resilience, collaboration and a commitment to building a future where dermatologic care is equitable and accessible for all.
