Public Health Research in Developing Countries: Achievements and Challenges

Abstract

Public health research in developing countries plays a crucial role in addressing health challenges, promoting equitable access to healthcare, and improving health outcomes. This chapter provides a concise overview of the history, rationality, importance, achievements, challenges, and recommendations pertaining to public health research in developing countries. The chapter highlights the historical evolution of public health research and its evidence-based approach in understanding disease causes, identifying risk factors, and evaluating interventions. It emphasizes the importance of public health research in disease prevention, health promotion, policy development, addressing health disparities, and emergency preparedness. The chapter acknowledges the achievements of public health research in developing countries, such as disease control, maternal and child health improvement, HIV/AIDS prevention, and access to essential medicines.
